The Influenza Vaccines 2o2o program is being rolled out in the coming days. We do not currently have vaccines in stock but will notify our customers via FaceBook and our website when stock is available.
The vaccination program will be starting early for eligible patients only, as they are at the greatest risk of serious illness from influenza. Eligible patients, to be vaccinated for free at community pharmacies, include people aged 65 and over, pregnant women and people with certain chronic conditions*. Pharmacist vaccinators will be able to administer funded vaccination for eligible people aged 13 years and over.
Healthcare workers are also prioritised for this first round of immunisations, although these are not funded and there will be a $29 charge per person (unless they meet the eligible person criteria).
Influenza vaccine does not protect against COVID-19, however it will help prevent a serious illness that causes hundreds of deaths and places significant pressure on healthcare services each winter in New Zealand. Improving protection against influenza for our healthcare workforce and for our most vulnerable populations will improve our ability to manage increased demand as a result of COVID-19.
We will be defering all privately funded vaccination until Monday 13th April (two weeks after the usual start date) to allow eligible patients and healthcare workers to have priority access.
